The acronym LGBTQ+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, and plus describe distinct groups within the gay culture and it has been used since the 1990s. This acronym is used on people who are non-heterosexual. At the advent of pride, initially, it focused more on men. With time they decided to tackle women as well that is why L is usually the first letter of the acronym.
People who are bisexual or transgender have been traditionally left out of, or underrepresented in, research studies and health initiatives. It is now considered standard to include these two groups along with gay men and lesbians.

G (Gay): Gay is often used to refer men to as men-aligned people who are only attracted to people of the same or similar gender. Lesbians oftimes also referred to as gay.
B (Bisexual): Bisexual specifies an attraction to men and women. so many times people who identify as bi have been misunderstood as being gay. Bisexuality has included transgender, binary and nonbinary individuals.
T (Transgender): Transgender is a term that indicates that a person's gender identity is different from the gender associated with the sex they were assigned at birth.
Q (Queer or Questioning): Though queer may be used by people as a specific identity, it is often considered an umbrella term for anyone who is not heterosexual. Questioning refers to people who may be unsure of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.
+ (Plus): The 'plus' is used to signify all gender identities and sexual orientations that are not specifically covered by the other five initials like Two-Spirit, a pan-Indigenous American identity.
